Field Trip to 69 Bravo Helistop Members of the Topanga Historical Society (THS) are invited to participate in a field trip to the 69 Bravo Helistop on Sunday, July 31 at 10 a.m., where they will meet guest speaker LACoFD Fire Chief Drew Smith, who has spent years fighting and studying wildfires in the Santa Monica Mountains. One of LA County’s most valuable assets, 69 Bravo Helistop is located atop Saddle Peak with 360° views of the surrounding area. Firefighting helicopters can quickly refill from self-replenishing tanks that hold 10,000 gallons, providing Topanga and our neighbors with the world’s top firefighting supply station. RSVP for location and to request a parking space. Not a member? Join here: info@topangahistoricalsociety.org. Bring sun protection, water, and a folding chair if you need to sit. Wednesday, July 27, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan Workshop (CCWPP). #LACountyPlanning invites the public to join the discussion at one of their five region-based virtual CCWPP workshops. The event will provide community-focused fire protection and response strategies for all unincorporated at-risk communities. The CCWPP will identify and prioritize potential vegetation treatment projects or project areas identified through the Wildfire Risk Assessment, Unified Land Management Plan, stakeholder input, and existing conditions evaluations. The CCWPP will also include region-specific risk assessment information and an action plan that will be organized by forecast zones for evaluating fire weather due to similar climatological patterns. Future community workshops will also be conducted by forecast zone to foster region-appropriate discussions. For information for this workshop specific for Topanga and the Santa Monica Mountains: https://planning.lacounty.gov/site/climate/ccwpp.
