Kamakshi Hart’s critically acclaimed, award-winning one-woman show, Wild At Hart: A Tale of Trauma & Triumph, returns to the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks on Thursday, September 17, at 7 p.m., only this time it’s streaming live in stay-at-home style. There will be a Vimeo chat Q & A immediately following the performance. On January 26, Wild At Hart played to a sold-out house at the Whitefire Theatre’s Solofest 2020. The largest solo theatre festival on the West Coast, Hart’s play was among a few selected out of 80 shows for an encore performance at “Best of The Fest� to be held later in the spring. By the end of March, as we know, the coronavirus was shutting down everything, including live theatre. That did not stop Whitefire’s artistic director, Bryan Rasmussen, who is determined to keep his Sherman Oaks landmark theatre alive. He had already begun offering livestreaming the year prior. With the stay-at-home orders, he quickly upgraded his equipment so he could broadcast state-of-the art solo theatre. His “Best of the Fest� selections have been performing as part of his summertime “Streamfest.� and Wild At Hart will be closing out “Streamfest� to make way for the launch of Black Voices Matter: A Livestream Solo Theatre Festival. Hart’s play deeply engages the audience while striking a timely, powerful chord for all ages (mid-teen and up) and genders. Moving and miraculous, her wide range of talent is showcased through her performance of 25 characters and the songs that masterfully tell her personal tale of transformation. There is comedy amid the tragedy and the overall themes are: transformation, healing, trauma-informed education, and empowerment through speaking up and sharing our stories. Urged to bring her story to the stage by the advent of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, all members of her audience, regardless of background, have identified with the central character of Shame. Wild At Hart is a testimony to the power of healing, building resilience and empathy through the telling of and listening to each other’s stories.
