TAC Short-Play Festival 2023, Part 2

Those of you who joined Topanga Actors Company (TAC) for the first weekend of the Short-Play Festival (November 4 & 5) have already sampled the results of a playwriting competition that attracted over 400 entries. The good news is the festival is far from over. Part Two kicks off on November 18 & 19 with a fresh set of plays that are just as original and engaging as the plays in Part One. We wish we could pass on the many responses of playwrights to being included in the festival but here’s a couple of samples: “Hello! This is incredible news!†from a playwright in his twenties who told us he has never had his work put on before; and, “Oh, yay! I love this little play and, yes, it’s pretty rude and timely,†from a playwright who confesses her inspiration includes some pretty eminent media professionals (unnamed). We’ve had plays sent by published authors, poets and TV producers. Some have won prizes; for others this is the first time their play has had an audience.
(L-R) Tony Lynn, Bill Pierce, Judith Hendra (director) Patrick Skelton,  Ben Birmingham in The Real Househusbands of Vermont by David Carkeet
Elizabeth Herron and Mark Irvingsen in H-O-R-S-E by Kathleen Cahill.
Readers of The Canyon Chronicle who have been to our productions are familiar with our actors’ ways of working, reading and performing at the same time and working feet away from the audience. Most of the plays we’ve chosen feature two actors, which is normally a challenge and in this case is an advantage. Bringing a play to life doesn’t need a ton of special effects. Less may be more!

Once again we have guest actors joining us for this very special occasion and, as usual, TAC offers the entire festival absolutely free of charge. The programs do include “mature content.â€
Please Note: An older teen will likely enjoy themselves but please don’t bring young children.

Contact us at topangaactorscompany@theatercompany.com. We’ll be happy to answer your queries. And if you’ve never attended a TAC production, why not make this the first time?

Topanga Library, November 18 & 19, 2 p.m. Free, open seating.
Programs last about ninety minutes. See content advisory, above.

The Topanga Library is located at 122 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga, CA 90290.
