The other day, while walking outside, I came across a tiny hatchling on the ground. It couldn’t fly or move yet and appeared hungry. Upon closer inspection, I realized that it had fallen from its nest high up in a nearby tree. Filled with concern for the little bird, I immediately sought professional help and, with the aid of a ladder, we managed to return the hatchling safely to its mother in the nest. This encounter left an impression on me and made me reflect on the intricacies of life. I couldn’t help but think that everything seemed perfectly orchestrated, and G-D had intended for me to be there at that precise moment to return the hatchling to its nest. The vulnerability of the tiny bird, and being there to save the bird in time, left me feeling both humbled and grateful. This experience also got me thinking about the significance of acts of kindness, whether planned or spontaneous, in our daily lives. While we may often volunteer our time and efforts to support charitable causes in our community, sometimes the most meaningful opportunities to make a difference arise unexpectedly. It could be as simple as offering a drink of water to a thirsty biker passing by your house or assisting a person in need of a hitch up Topanga Blvd., or in my case, helping a hatchling return to its nest. I believe that it is in these little encounters in life that we have the power to make a significant impact on someone else’s life. Your presence, your caring gesture, and your willingness to help might be just what someone needs at that moment. Additionally I think, how we respond to these opportunities speaks volumes about who we are as individuals. It reveals our default state of consciousness—a state of giving and support. When opportunities come our way unexpectedly and we aren’t “ready for it� may be when we find out who we really are. So, I invite you to embrace such moments in your life, with an open heart and a willingness to help.
