A cool DJ spun vintage soul records on the main stage while the Tropic Truck and Baby’s Badass Burgers provided delicious food for sale.
As a fundraiser for the TCC, it was a members-only event but they sold one-day memberships for $10 for a family or $5 for an individual.
Among the many variety of booths, brothers Keith and John Franks drove up from the Valley to sell their stuff including an eclectic mix of Grateful Dead t-shirts, tools and miscellaneous Rock ‘n’ Roll items.
Keith said that for years they loved selling stuff at the Topanga Swap Meet and were thrilled that the event has returned after two years of COVID-19 shutdowns.
Another exhibitor, Lauren Aubrey, looked lovely in her diaphanous gown while she displayed new and vintage clothing in a colorful booth at the edge of the ball field. A personal healer, Aubrey calls herself the Dream Queen, as she offers dreamwork sessions, customized jewelry and essential oils for healing and transformation. Vintage glass, wine openers, wine accessories, kitchen wares and cool collectibles were on display at the tables set up by Chris Harz and Sarah Baisley, who also host the monthly Topanga Writer’s Group on Old Canyon.

“We had a great time!” Baisley wrote of the event. “This was a great catalyst to do some spring cleaning; many people insisted on paying more than we were asking! A guy gave me $2 for a cigar box I labeled free.”
The Topanga Community Center. The Topanga Community Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization, independently owned and maintained by the citizens of Topanga. The TCC was founded in 1949. Since then, it has been the only community center available to generations of Topanga Canyon residents. The TCC is funded, not through any county or state taxes, but by membership dues, donations and fundraising.
The TCC is dedicated to protect, maintain, upgrade and enhance the Community House and the grounds entrusted to its care, and serves theTopanga community by providing access and support for philanthropic, educational, and community activities and services.
The adjacent ball field is the home field of Topanga Youth Baseball and Soccer League. Additional income is provided by rentals, such as weddings and special events, but fundraising, such as the Swap Meet and the annual Topanga Days Memorial Day Fair—its biggest fundraiser—keep the doors open. This year, the post-pandemic fair will be two days instead of three, Sunday, May 29, and Monday, Memorial Day, May 30.
