Topanga Residents

Topanga Residents: As summer approaches, the threat of wildfire increases - and all Topanga residents need to be aware of measures they can take to mitigate risk and prevent fires. It is critical for homeowners to maintain proper brush clearance around their property. Creating defensible space increases the chances that a home will survive a wildfire, and gives our firefighters tactical options to defend homes and structures. The annual LACoFD Defensible Space Inspection Program begins on June 1st and continues through the month. If a home is not compliant with brush clearance requirements during the initial inspection, follow-up inspections will be done within 30 days. This will ensure that all necessary clearance is completed prior to the onset of fall Santa Ana winds. Los Angeles County personnel are currently finalizing safe evacuation procedures with respect to changes due to COVID-19. Now is also the perfect time to reevaluate your own family’s evacuation plan with these factors in mind. Please review the “READY! SET! GO!‚“ brochure for more information on preparing your home and evacuation plan. Remember - preventing wildfires is our collective responsibility, so we are asking that you stay dedicated to our common goals. We strive to maintain a strong sense of community partnership and look forward to working with you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Respectfully, Andrew Smith Acting Assistant Fire Chief LACoFD Division VII
