In the early hours of Tuesday, May 3, Old Canyon neighbors were awakened by Sheriffs Deputies and a negotiator urging Gary Gunn to come out of his house. It was reported by a witness that he had a gun. Yet, despite negotiations, Gunn ultimately took his own life. He was 85. “I have met with the family and want to let you know that Gary Gunn had cancer and there was nothing more that Hospice Care could do,” wrote a close friend and witness who preferred to remain anonymous. “He wanted to die at home, on his beloved property, and made sure that happened. Peace has come to the family and Gary is no longer suffering. There will be no memorial; only the family is gathering together, informally.” The incident is under investigation by the Malibu / Lost Hills Sheriffs Department.
