TEP’s Legacy Lives On

October 27, 2023 Dear Editor, One of your subscribers and our friend, Susan Mahler, forwarded the Sept. 1, 2023 edition of The Canyon Chronicle with an article entitled “TEP at 40, a Topanga Legacy.” I was happy to read about one of our founders, Lynne Haigh, with whom my wife and I stay in touch. 1983 seems like a long time ago and I guess it was. At the time, we would not have guessed that TEP would still be around in 2023 or that at least some of us would still be around to read about it, or that our modest goal of $10,000 would have increased to $340,000, about the price of a Topanga house back in 1983. Congratulations to Topanga Elementary...and what we casually referred to as “The Booster Club...” for 40 great years. One person not mentioned in the Sept 1 article deserves a mention here: Greg Humphries (1947-2023). Greg’s wife, Megan Rice, wrote a touching tribute to Greg in the last edition of The Canyon Chronicle (Oct. 13, 2023). Her tribute does not mention this, but Greg did all the necessary legal work to form TEP (pro bono of course). His generous efforts also helped to make TEP a reality. I would also like to thank every one of those contributors who helped us reach that $10,000 goal back in 1983. They were also founders. Respectfully submitted, —Stanley Young, Ostrander, Ohio One of many TEP founders
