August 12, Save The Date! Fire Department Virtual Evacuation Drill

As most residents know, Topanga is especially prone to fires that are increasing in number and severity in recent years, as evidenced by the 2018 Woolsey Fire, spot fires along Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Pacific Coast Highway, and more recently, the Palisades Fire and the Tuna Fire incident. To help residents and businesses better prepare for these events, there will be a Virtual Fire Drill for Topanga and Sunset Mesa on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. MARK YOUR CALENDAR and join your neighbors! The recent fires highlight the importance of being ready. This online, drill will provide information about preparing before an incident occurs and how to evacuate if necessary. To help residents better prepare for evacuation, this first-time online drill will be in response to a realistic fire scenario which progresses during the event, resulting in the “evacuation” of residents by zones. It will feature active instruction by LA County Fire Department (LACoFD), Law Enforcement, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and Animal Care & Control. It is critical that as many Topangans as possible participate in this event because our safety is interdependent on each other. This is an opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback directly from Fire Department and Law Enforcement officials. To register: http://bit.ly/Virtual EvacDrill. A Zoom link will be emailed to registrants closer to the event date. If you have questions prior to the event, please contact: Megan Currier, Community Services Liaison, LACoFD–Division VII; (310) 456-7923; megan.currier@fire.lacounty.gov. This event is jointly sponsored by: LA County Fire Dept., LA County Sheriff’s Dept., Topanga Town Council, CHP, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), LA County Animal Care & Control, TCEP, Sunset Mesa, and the office of Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.
