TCC Fundraiser Success!
The Topanga Community Center (TCC) raised 52% of its $65,000 shortfall in the 2020 Giving December fundraising campaign.
With big and small donations from many people in our community throughout the month, the TCC’s end of year plea was heard and the TCC Board is grateful to everyone who stepped up to support this very special hub of our community.
There are many overhead costs that still must be paid, including utilities, insurance, ball field maintenance, property taxes, and others. Because the TCC does not receive regular County funds, we constantly fundraise, ask people to join as a member, and rent out the property. With COVID-19 lockdown, rentals have been canceled, as well as all the wonderful events that the TCC usually hosts, such as Topanga Days, Square Dances, and Disco Nights.
Even, so, TCC will continue to focus its attention on the community as it did in 2019, bringing joy and aid to the community, that started with the Drive-by Easter Bunny last April. In May, they hired a Mariachi Band to go to different neighborhoods in the Canyon. By summertime, a Meal Program sponsored by a CDBG Grant from Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s office, delivered food to community members negatively impacted by Covid-19. In the fall, the TCC presented Drive-in Movie Nights for members. The TCC also hosted two Red Cross Blood Drives in March and October, and served as a polling location for the November Election. Its Christmas gift to the community was a Santa Drive-Thru at the TCC, and in January a joint effort with Topanga Elementary’s fundraising arm, TEP, organized Topanga’s first Community Scavenger Hunt (www.topangacommunitycenter.org).
Even with its doors closed, your community center has been trying its best to serve the community, much of it because of your generosity.
