PDSMM Honors Jane Fonda with a Lifetime Achievement Award

The Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains (PDSMM) will honor actor and activist Jane Fonda with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Activism in Pursuit of Peace and Justice during their summer fundraiser on Sept. 9, 3:30 p.m.-Sunset. The summer fundraising event will be held at the Topanga hilltop home of Dorothy Reik, president of the PDSMM. (Guests must register online to purchase tickets and receive the address, see below). Other invited guests include U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu; L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon; State Sen. Ben Allen; and actor Mimi Kennedy. Other honorees include Steven Donziger who will receive the PDSMM Tim Carpenter Award for Activism in Pursuit of Environmental Justice Outside the Democratic Party. Donziger is the environmental attorney who won a billion-dollar judgement against Chevron for fouling the waters in Ecuador killing members of the indigenous tribe whose lives and livelihood depended on those waters.  “He was persecuted by the U.S. government and Chevron but has emerged as a hero of the environmental movement,” Reik wrote.  Other honorees include Howie Klein, who will receive the PDSMM Lila Garrett Award for Journalism in Pursuit of Peace and Justice; and Susie Shannon, receiving the PDSMM Tim Carpenter Courage Award for Activism in Pursuit of Economic Justice. “The PDSMM, along with Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is working on getting Biden to declare a climate emergency and passing a resolution for an Economic Bill of Rights in all the state Democratic parties and hopefully turn it into legislation,” wrote Reik. To RSVP, donate, buy tickets or become a member go to: pdsmm.org or contact Dorothy Reik, President, PDSMM at (310) 291-1300 or dorothyreik@pdsmm.org About PDSMM. Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains is a chartered club of the Los Angeles Democratic Party.   “We strive to cultivate progressive ideals within our community by supporting reformist elected officials,” Reik wrote. “We believe that awareness of current events and involvement with local officials aids in our commonly shared goal of Waging Peace. We uphold a revered reputation with such officials by continuously jumping on pressing issues and advocating for moral justice. There is no compromise when it comes to the environment, and equality among all.”
