Lemon-AID for Ukraine Raises $1,200

To help the children of Ukraine, Topanga mothers and their children set up a Lemon-AID for Ukraine booth where they sold ice-cold, refreshing cups of lemonade on Friday, March 12, in the parking lot where La Chingona sells their tacos on Friday nights. Folks were generous and the group raised $1,200 from 4 to 7 p.m. The money raised will be split between the World Central Kitchen, which is currently helping to feed Ukrainian refugees at the Polish Border, and the Voices of Children Foundation, which supplies emergency psychological and evacuation assistance to children affected by the Russian invasion. The mothers involved in the project were Jennifer Badger, Anne-Marie Bickerton, Midori Takata, and Gabrielle Mirkin. The children helping them at the stand were Chloe and Bowie Badger, Luke Bickerton (who twirled a Lemon-AID for Ukraine sign), Matthias Maurer and Cisco Harwood. “The Lemon-AID for Ukraine stand was powered by a collective of Topanga mamas and kids,” Badger wrote via email. “While it wasn’t officially sanctioned by any school, the school communities of Westside Waldorf, Sycamore School, Mariposa Elementary, and Under the Oaks helped in a huge way through the donation of local, pesticide-free lemons from their trees, and by visiting the lemonade stand! We also have our incredible Topanga neighbors to thank for their bountiful donations of local lemons, equipment, and support at the stand! Special thanks to Adriana Lemus at La Chingona Tacos for welcoming our fundraiser to her space and to Gidget at Flower Power Topanga for donating a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers—the Ukrainian national flower.” Did you miss the Lemonade stand?
