Old Canyon Shooter Remains in Custody

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at the 2100 block of Old Topanga Canyon Rd., Topanga, on Saturday, Jan. 16.
“We received the first call about 2:45 p.m. and the gunshot victim was transported to the hospital,†said Lt. Evans of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. “His friend is in custody.†Watch Commander Lt. Evans added that the conflict was an argument between friends that resulted in a non-fatal shooting.
In a follow-up conversation with Watch Commander Lt. Carrillo, he said, “We can confirm there was one male victim that went to the hospital via L.A. County Fire helicopter.â€
Witnesses said the victim, a male, was transported via L.A. County Fire helicopter from Bonnell Park. During the incident, Old Canyon swarmed with Sheriffs’ vehicles while a helicopter circled overhead.
“The suspect was detained around 4:45 p.m.†Lt. Evans said. “He came out on his own and there is no threat to the community.â€

The victim of the shooter escaped to Bonnell Park, about a quarter mile away from the scene of the incident and was evacuated by this LA County Fire helicopter that landed in Bonnell Park. Station 69 firefighters and EMTs also responded, administered aid, and moved the victim to the helicopter.
