Putin’s Helpless Victims at Kiev Zoos
Horace, the elephant at the Kiev Zoo has to be sedated now, because the bombs and shell-fire terrify him. His large ears pick up the sound of approaching tanks and falling missiles far beyond human abilities. Zebras are kept inside because, in a panic during an attack, they bolted into a fence and injured themselves. The giraffes are also confined indoors, distressed and confused by the windows shaking from artillery bombardments a few miles away. A lemur named Maya abandoned her newborn.
