I read in The Canyon Chronicle that our Topanga Library is closing! (Haha! April Fool!) Well, we have an alternative right on Entrada Rd. for your reading explorations! On your way walking to Topanga State Park, or walking your dog, stop by our Little Free Library (LFL) between 21084 and 21078 Entrada Rd. We launched our LFL November 13th with an open house and mini concert by our beloved neighbor Peter Alsop, native food tasting, and kids crafts. We soon discovered four things: Our neighborhood has evolved to include new families and many new young children! Our LFL didn’t fit large-size young child books! There was no place to sit and browse No place to anchor your dog while you sat to relax and enjoy! So, we added a kids’ annex that will accommodate large picture books, a simple bench for relaxing, and a hook just for dog leashes! In case you don’t know, the Little Free Library is an international non-profit network of communities that offer reading opportunities to their neighbors, plus a variety of opportunities. There is an international map showing where the LFLs can be found, and pages of ideas for our community. There is also a way to donate to the LFL movement: look for an envelope in our LFL, or go online to donate to this fun reading adventure: littlefreelibrary.org. We discovered that there are four LFLs in Topanga, one on Callon, one on Skyline Dr., and one on Muerdago, but isn’t on the map so you can explore the LFLs in Topanga! So, we invite you to stop by, browse the books, sign the guest register, take a book, hook your dog leash to the dog anchor, and “set a spell� on the bench. If you feel so inclined, drop off book donations in a box under the bench. There may even be a questionnaire in the LFL for you to let us know how we are doing, what you would like to see.
