The Legacy of Moira Talan Dwyer
“At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” This quote by Maya Angelou is very true of my beautiful fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Talan, who brought exquisite energy to Topanga Elementary. I felt happiness and joy in her classroom every day. She made every lesson playful and fun. Each morning we did a check-in to see how we were feeling that day, and the practice left an impact on me. I will always remember her in my heart.
Crossing the Threshold
In memory of Ms. Talan
In the heavens bright above us
The harmonious land is an escape from the
Perilous nonsense of man.
To never return is the burden of life
But is greatly accepted
Once lived, as it can.
Love leisurely floats
Alongside peace, as its friend
For this is where the souls arrive.
One may not visit, but live instead
And recall individuals
From the memory’s archive.
O the waters and the shimmers
Humbly gift you with calm
And the colors of flowers and marigolds.
The journey awaits
For every being in this world,
The experience is as some say…
Crossing the threshold.
