At 91, Professor Charles Quigley Celebrates with a Hike
By Richard Hoops
Early morning hikers in Topanga State Park at Trippet Ranch probably have met Chuck Quigley on the East Topanga Fire Road. Quigley starts every day with a hike toward Parker Mesa from the entrance on Waveview Drive, but December 7 was a bit different; it was his 91st birthday and he was hiking with family and friends. He paused for this photo after hiking up the hill past Cougar Rock with his daughters, Lise Borja (left), and Monique Quigley (right), and his grandson Zev Kast. Like any other workday, after the hike, he went to his job as a senior consultant to a group he founded called the Center for Civic Education in Calabasas, which is dedicated to promoting an enlightened and responsible citizenry committed to democratic principles and actively engaged in the practice of democracy in the United States and other countries.
