Save Topanga Pet Resort—For 15 years, owners Pat and Keith Tomlinson’s Topanga Pet Resort has provided long-term boarding, training, and day care for dogs and those happy tails are still wagging. Sadly, the Pet Resort is at risk of disappearing due to a possible change in ownership. The six-acre Topanga property, including the business, is on the market for $5 million. Drought and extreme heat have been tough on one of the last remaining reproducing populations of southwestern pond turtles in the Santa Monica Mountains. The last refugia pools holding southwestern turtles in the Santa Monica Mountains were going dry. On September 4th, 2021, a team of 25 volunteers led by RCD biologists deployed 20 hoses, hauling them up a steep 200-foot ravine to get water to the turtles. It took all day to deliver more than 2,000 gallons of water. Now that we know this can work, we are seeking $13,850 to purchase necessary materials (pipes, valves, gages, water, etc.) to set up a permanent solution to keep the refugia pools filled in times of drought.
