Finding Light During Challenging Times

In these challenging times, our hearts are heavy with the ongoing war, which has unfortunately led to a rise in anti-Semitic sentiments. It can be disheartening, and many of us may feel lost amidst the wave of negativity. However, it’s crucial to recognize that the Jewish people have faced persecution throughout history, and time and time again, we have found strength in the belief that G-D is with us. Chanukah, a festival that symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, holds a particularly important message for us today. The ancient Greeks sought to eradicate faith and religion. Yet, just as G-D protected our ancestors during that time, we hold onto the faith that G-D will protect us now. As you take part in lighting the Chanukah menorah this year, I encourage you to take a moment: Gaze into the flames, and feel the warmth and light of G-D’s protection. In that moment, feel the unity of our people, who have been lighting this menorah for thousands of years. Appreciate what our ancestors have stood for, and that a little bit of light, will light up the vast darkness that exists in the world around us. Wishing you a warm and happy Chanukah!
The Community Menorah lighting, which took place at Chabad of Topanga, added to the festival with a fruit truck, donuts, latkes and a children’s program.
