COVID-19 Diary: ‘Everything is Possible’

By Jean Colonomos
Dear Reader, I align with quantum physics and its vision of multi-universes operating simultaneously. The challenge is how to incorporate them all. Perla: “What if everything is perfect the way it is?” 9/25/20 Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the first woman and first Jewish person to lie in state at the capital. At her funeral, Rabbi Lauren Holtz Blatt, said about this national treasure: “…to imagine that something can be different is the job of a prophet. And it is the rare prophet who not only imagines a new world but makes that a reality in her lifetime. This was the brilliance and vision of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.” 9/26/20 After RBG’s death, Act Blue, a site that raises money for progressive candidates, raked in $100 million dollars in donations. 9/27/20 What if Justice Ginsburg hadn’t encouraged Lilly Ledbetter to keep pursuing her equal pay lawsuit? The Guardian: Comment from 9/23 from people who’d traveled to the Justice’s funeral. “Ragan Gray, Texas. ‘I’m feeling really scared. I understand what it means to have a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. It’s terrifying.’” 204,000 dead from Covid-19. In the Hindu religion, Kali Yuga, the five thousand-plus years of chaos and disharmony has ended and a new era of enhanced perception is about to begin. 9/29/20 Esther Mobley, The San Francisco Chronicle’s wine critic: Wineries affected during the Glass fire in Napa Valley, CA; Behrens Family Winery, Burgess Cellar, Castello di Amorosa, Chateau Boswell, Fairwinds Estate Winery, Hourglass Winery, Newton Vineyard, Sherwin Family Vineyards, Spring Mountain Vineyard, Sterling Vineyards, and Tofanello Vineyards. 9/30/20 Governor Newsom signed a bill approving a task force to consider paying reparations for slavery. 10/2/20 45 enters Walter Reed Hospital for Covid-19 treatment. #SayHerName: Rekia Boyd—Killed by police on March 21, 2012. Sherese Francis—Killed by police on March 15, 2012 Aiyana Stanley-Jones—Killed by police on May 16, 2010 Tarika Wilson—Killed by police on January 4, 2008 Kathryn Johnson—Killed by police on November 21, 2006 10/6/20 “Wanderer, your footprints are / the path, and nothing else: / wanderer, there is no path, / the path is made by walking.” Antonio Machado / Proverbs and Songs 29. 10/12/20 A rainbow strip shows up in my bathroom. A positive sign? Lena: What if I’d met the man I married in a previous life? 10/15/20 Ziv’s daughter, Gaia: “I like school online. I can sleep later and wear my pajamas all day. Eight months and counting: Often I hear people ask, “What day is it?” For 13 years, Larry Cohn’s Canyon Bistro has given its dining customers standout California/French cuisine. The relaxing ambiance is where Topanga residents and others from surrounding areas can enjoy a delicious meal. I often eat lunch at 122 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., am well served by Pablo, Monique, Saul, and Sergio, and superb chefs Roberto or Jose. As a twelve-year customer, eating there lifts my spirits. Fresh organic produce is locally grown and meats come from Paso Robles, Omaha, Colorado, and Texas. Recently added is a wine bar (4-9 p.m.) with free corkage on Wednesdays from 4-9 p.m. Wines are from France and California wines from Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, and Topanga. There’s also beer from England. At night, the dinner menu expands to offer prime meats, pasta, and fish dishes and there are also weekend specials. Kudos for the Bistro’s excellent service and maintained quality during the beginning of the pandemic when a masked and gloved waiter delivered food to your car. Now there’s take-out and patio dining for lunch and dinner. Tables are spread out to maintain social distancing. The staff wears face shields and gloves and Cohn maintains high sanitary conditions. Come join us at the Bistro where the joy of food lives. 10/26/20 People of Praise Catholic Amy Coney Barret is now a Supreme Court Justice solidifying an Alt Right court. Over 5,600 firefighters are battling 22 California wildfires. 10/27/20 Since 2013 the Dodgers have played in the post season 8 times and, tonight, they won!!! 10/29/20 Since the Civil War, never has our democracy been so threatened by its own government. Never has the one inclusive gift to vote for the choice of government that people have worked hard to achieve, been so threatened by the color of one’s skin, by the village, county, and state you live in, and by those who are committed to enforcing never-ending prejudices. The decline began in 1993 when Newt Gingrich declared war—no more compromising, no more working across the aisle with Democrats. They are the enemy, setting up a perfect storm for the rise of 45 to decimate our government. Will democracy survive? EPILOGUE While at Car Max waiting impatiently to hear what price they’d offer to take my car, my four-year-old granddaughter, Maddie, pipes up: “Nana, while you’re waiting, everything is possible.
As a 12-year customer at Larry Cohn’s Canyon Bistro, Author Jean Colonomos says, “Eating there lifts my spirits.”
