January 6, 2021 will live in infamy when armed mobs threatening death to Vice President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, broke into the U.S. Capitol, the temple of democracy, forcing lawmakers to flee the building. 7am: Today, Congress will certify the electoral college votes and we can finally exhale. 12:30 pm: Forget exhaling. It’s a Civil War. Insurrectionists have charged into the U. S. Capitol. An email I just received: “The treasonous Trumpsters have stormed the capital building and stopped the certification proceedings. All I can say is that if these guys were black lives matter political protesters they’d all be tear-gassed and in jail—alas they are privileged white thugs. Of course I notice that all are maskless so maybe natural selection will help thin the crowd. What a disgrace!†A. Confirmed: A woman was shot during the riots but there’s no information on her yet. She was on a ledge trying to enter the Capitol. “Looks like a coup. Infuriating and heartbreaking... I too don’t understand why they weren’t more prepared and why it took them so long to muster a response. It’s getting dark and they’re still all there...†Marsha All day I have been thinking the same—look what they did to protestors just standing on the lawn. I don’t understand why they let it go so far—well I guess I do. It›s sitting in the white house. So scary! Mary Kay The Lincoln Project says the Senate should impeach 45 during the last two weeks. The National Association of Manufacturers suggests the Senate suggests invoking the 25th amendment that what’shisname is not psychologically fit to be president while he’s in the White House planning his next attack. Senator Mitt Romney: “What happened today was an insurrection incited by the President of the United States.†1:30 pm: I hear a reporter at the Capitol saying there was a riot but there was “no violence,†and this was one hour after the troll-like thugs smashed their way into the Capitol ready to kill certain lawmakers. It’s unconscionable trying to normalize this insurrection. LM: Watching the horrible and unprecedented scenes in Washington DC right now. NZ: “I had to turn off the TV; it was too much.†Tweet: 45 added to his first grievance where he claimed again the election was stolen. His second tweet: “I know your pain. I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it. Especially the other side. But you have to go home now. Go home, we love you. You’re very special.†Twitter has censored 45 for the next 12 hours and threatens to cancel his account. Mark Zuckerberg has erased 45’s account indefinitely. The woman shot on the Capitol ledge has died. Criminal negligence: From the day he was elected, our domestic terrorist has threatened violence and nobody paid attention while he was destroying America. Where were the Metro police? Where were counter assault teams? Where was the park service, the FBI? There was ample evidence to know the National Guard should be there. Didn’t you listen to him give the Proud Boys permission to incite violence?! Sheila, Bloomsbury Books, Ashland: “I was working today, and when the story broke, the store emptied and there were hardly any cars on the street. Most people went home to watch. This is historic.†DC’s Mayor, Muriel Bowser, announced a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am tomorrow What if those rioters were black?!!! January 7, 2021 In the wee morning hours, Biden was pronounced President-elect and Kamala Harris was confirmed as Vice-President-elect. About the certification of Pennsylanvia’s election, out of 99 senators, 7 objected to its legitimacy. They were: Josh Hawley, Missouri; Ted Cruz, Texas; Tommy Tuberville, Alabama (who could not name the 3 branches of government); Cindy-Hyde-Smith, Mississippi; Roger Marshall, Kansas; Cynthia Lummis, Wyoming and Rick Scott, Florida. The attempt to overturn Arizona’s electoral slate failed. The House count was 303-121 and the Senate was 93-6 votes. They were Senators Josh Hawley; Ted Cruz; Tommy Tuberville; Cindy Lummis, and John Kennedy, Louisiana. It was hollow to hear the Republicans declaiming the horrors of yesterday while they supported 45 while he was destroying democracy. The way to redemption is to impeach him. In LA county someone dies every 8 minutes from Covid-19. Marian’s mom: “I’m watching CNN for counting votes. Sooo nice when you experience democracy, something we never experienced in Iran.†Washington Post: Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) offered up a name to the FBI in response to a call for help identifying people responsible for Wednesday’s violence at the Capitol. Ms. Bass posted a photo of the president pumping his fist urging his base to march on the Capitol. She tweeted, “Found one.†The woman fatally shot yesterday was identified as 35-year-old Ashli Babbit, a California native and Air Force veteran. A Trump flag was draped around her waist. While radical right extremist, Senator Mike Lee of Utah, urged staffers to stay until January 20, 2021, senior White House economist, Tyler Goodspeed, acting chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, leaves his post with no remaining members. Three more staffers have resigned. Also, Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation and Mitch McConnell’s wife, has left. Soon, Mick Mulvany and Betsy DeVos will jump ship. U.S. Capitol policeman, Brian Sicknick, hit with a fire extinguisher, died from his injuries during the pro-Trump insurrection. Epilogue: From poet, Marsha de la O: “They don’t make them // like my father anymore. He pulled / up just as the plumber on my roof / inserted a snake into a 2-inch pipe. / My father jumped out of his truck / grabbed a shovel from the back / and started digging for the main line. / It plainly needed a cleanout valve. / Three minutes later and two feet down / he tried another spot, and then another. /The plumber shot me a crooked grin, / So who’s that, he asked, Bucky Gopher? º/ I didn’t answer – that it was for him – / but if you had seen my father dig, you / would understand innocence in America.
