APRIL FOOL LETTERS!

APRIL FOOL LETTERS!

Starbucks and the Topanga Library! What fool endorsed this one? Who is getting paid off? I hope we Topangans get to vote on this crap!!! –Joe Futterer I LOVED the April Fools issue. A classic! Can’t wait for that new Starbucks! –Ryan Ulyate I wasn’t sure if this was part of the April Fools Day theme in a couple of other places in this issue, but personally, any time people try to reduce our beautifully interesting community into stereotypes, it really rubs me the wrong way. I’m genuinely not impressed with Miles Erickson’s version of “humor” (“18 Types of Topangans”) But, the drive-through Starbucks was quite over-the-top, and funny. If folks only read the headline or first sentence, they might flip out. It was obviously a joke by about sentence three. Thanks for the willingness to be playful. I’m an avid reader and not going anywhere. I genuinely adore the work that you do as a newspaper. Thank you. –Pavlos Stavrides “Over the weekend a very upset constituent contacted me to share her feelings about the Topanga library being converted to a Starbucks. I am reading the article now and got quite the chuckle!” –Tessa Charnofsky I looked in the paper here, and I see that they want to tear down the library and put in a Starbucks. Nobody needs a coffee shop there. I mean, it’s the library. I don’t get it. That’s where the kids go after school. And they just built that a few years ago. What in the hell’s the story? I’ll have a hundred people, or hundreds, saying, “This ain’t cool! We don’t need to have that!” This is the most ridiculous thing ever. I don’t get how this even became a thing. Starbucks? Driving in, driving out, on the worst curve in the Canyon? Oh, man! Terrible, terrible, terrible. –Paul Lovas GOTCHA! Dear Readers, To those who “got it” and those who didn’t, thank you all! We just couldn’t help ourselves! How could The Canyon Chronicle not publish a few jokes when our pub date was April 1?! So we seized the talent and the day and went for it. I hope by now, everyone is reading it again in the context that was intended and having a good laugh! It’s good for the soul and a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously.
