Dear Editor,
I want to say how pleased I am that the beautiful art on this cover (by illustrator Lori Precious, The Canyon Chronicle, October 29,2021, Vol. 2, No. 21) includes an acknowledgment of the Tongva and Chumash people, who are still here today all over Los Angeles county, and who have lived here for thousands of years before colonist arrival. It’s important to remember that our beloved Topanga didn’t exist in a vacuum and that we are beneficiaries of land that was taken from others. This isn’t to feel guilty, but to be aware, and have gratitude and appreciation.
Thanks for that awareness and I’d love to read more stories about deeply historical Topanga, from whatever stories can still be found.
